Travis Pastrana, the guy who essentially has invented doing backflips in all sorts of machinery that wasn’t meant to do so has done it again. This time, he flips his Nitro Circus monster truck…no seriously. the truck does a complete backflip and survives the ordeal. I’m impressed, hence the post.

I used to be a hardcore gamer once, during college, working nearly full time, living in a house where I was the ‘Manager’ and didn’t have to pay rent. Merely instead, I was collecting it from my roommates and making sure everything still looked nice inside and out.

My wife and I have argued about this contrite subject more than once.  My son is now at the tender age of two and half, his mind is absorbing the world around him like some sort of sponge that liquefies his surroundings at whole and devours it all by breathing in.  While we as parents have been in easy agreement over most things, such as books, toys, TV shows / Movies, and general teaching in thoughtfulness.  We have been at an impasse of sorts when it comes down to the things involving the broad geek culture.

Xopher Reed Zelda, Don’t Go Into The Light!!!

yup, little 4 foot psychic lady is no more

If you were alive in the 80s then I’m sure you’ve seen at least one iteration of the Poltergeist movies since your birth. If you remember the psychic lady from the first movie who urged Carol Anne “Don’t go into the light!” then you might be a little saddened to learn that Zelda Rubenstein shuffled off this mortal coil yesterday at the age of 76.

What do you people want...is mother fucking Haggis!

Well if you’re Scottish and living in America, you’ve probably not had a good haggis for the past 21 years unless you’ve:

  • Smuggled one into the country
  • Bought a sheep to make your own
  • Visited the motherland

To continue our expansion into the new decade, MediaWhoreNetwork is looking for new writers to spread the word.  Media is a passion of ours, and regardless of your particular media preferences we want to hear from you.

Ryan Wilson 25 Days of Christmas (Carol): Day 12

SCO's A Solstice Carol (1998)How I came to be in possession of adaptation 12, A Solstice Carol, was a complete fluke.  It was a 1998 theatrical production by a long forgotten Unix company, SCO (Santa Cruz Operation), known mainly for their versions of Xenix and UnixWare.  As a morale booster for their employees, the company would hold an annual Winter Solstice party with a live theatrical performance known as “SCO Follies”.  Uploaded on Youtube 2 years ago and with under 200 hits, I stumbled upon it during the beginning of this experiment.  I hesitated at first, knowing there were adaptations much more deserving of my attention at the time.  But now, roughly halfway through my journey, I decided to give it a chance.  What a stupid decision that was.

I could talk lengths about the numerous inside jokes and godawful song parodies (their Bohemian Rhapsody parody should be classified as a form of torture), but I’ll save you the pain.  Instead, I’ll talk about the cruel irony of it all.  Here was SCO, a company known for its laid back business attitude (company hot tub, anyone?), making jabs at the ever expanding Microsoft company, even addressing Bill Gates as “Emperor Gates”.  Even their Spirt of Solstice Future showed them struggling under the weight of Microsoft in the year 1908 (remember Y2K?).  If this was what would happen if their “Scrooge” didn’t change his ways, then they really mucked things up after that.  SCO barely made it into the new millenium, selling its flagship product off in 2001, then eventually filing for bankruptcy in 2007.

This 8 part Youtube series of videos exists as a cruel reminder to what once was.  As much as I want to rip on it, I just don’t have the heart to.  To those morbidly curious, I’ve provided part 1 below.

Jamie Gibson Left 4 Bed 2 Is Here

About a year ago, The Young Scot (close, personal friend of Mediawhore) made a video entitled Left 4 Bed, in which Bill of L4D made Louis of L4D, quite frankly, his bitch. The video did pretty well and The Young Scot quickly became internet famoose. Now the master of suspense is back with Left 4 Bed 2, and it’s bigger and better than ever before. Be afraid of Uncle Phil. Be very afraid.

CrocBox Children’s Theatre uses Pedobear in ads, hilarity ensues

The Oregon Children’s Theatre in Portland recently held a sale to unload some old costumes and in the fliers that were posted around the city to promote the sale a familiar face popped up, that of our old friend Pedobear. Nerds laughed and normal people got mad. I as well as a couple other people I know wish we could have been able to obtain at least one of these before the theatre had them pulled as they are obviously part of the best advertisement ever. According to the local reporter the sale took place on a weekend in “Sebuary”.

    The story originates from here.

Guys, guys, you all should know by now that I’m not a huge sports fan, and I can barely stand watching any type of ball or puck related game. I mean, I will watch some football and basketball if it’s the only thing on or I’m at a sports bar, but it’s not like I actively follow any team or sport.

Some of the crew here from MediaWhoreNetwork will be heading out to attend this year’s Penny-Arcade Expo in Seattle, WA starting tomorrow on the 4th. We’re going to cover the event by day, make business hook-ups (especially the Hudson party we’ve been invited to), and party for a good section of the night.

Joining your faithful Shogun in Seattle as members of the ‘media’ are our very own Ryan Wilson and Evan Burkey. With our powers combined, we’ll form a 700 lb gorilla of Whoredom.

Also attending as civilians will be BigPopaGamer, Coonskin, and Crocbox. If any of you regular readers are going to be there as well, let us know and we’d be glad to kick it with y’all.

Xopher Reed A Chimp and a Magician

Yeah I know that it sounds like the buildup for a horrible joke, but it’s completely worth a watch considering that the chimp has some of the most awesome reactions to the tricks that the magician does.

Ryan Wilson Pee-Wee Herman to Return to the Stage!

    Posted by Ryan Wilson On August - 10 - 2009   2 COMMENTS | 9 views

Pee-Wee Herman is making a comeback!Paul Reubens, thank you for making me the person I am today.  Back in the late 80s, my parents didn’t need to hire a babysitter to go out for a night on the town, they could just pop in a VHS of a few episodes of Pee-Wee’s Playhouse and I’d be glued to the television set for hours.  When I was a little older, I was allowed to watch Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure (I had the Large Marge nightmares to prove it).

Imagine my surprise when I read this today:

“It’s time. My Pee-wee suit and red bow tie are at the ready – and this is proof that white shoes are cool past Labor Day.”

Yes, fellow readers, Paul Reubens is bringing the Pee-Wee Herman character back, this time for a brief stage show.  This is not Reubens’ first foray into theatrical performance.  Before his Playhouse days, he was the star of The Pee-Wee Herman Show, a raunchy stage show that would later be toned down for a children’s show.  Paul Reubens was also a member of well-respected improvisational troupe The Groundlings, where he initially developed the popular character.

The stage show is set to begin on November 8th at The Music Box at the Henry Fonda Theater in Hollywood, California and will run for 17 performances.  This may very well be Reubens’ last outing in the gray suit, so get tickets if you can!

Tickets can be purchased starting tomorrow morning at Ticketmaster.
