Jamie Gibson Left 4 Bed 2 Is Here

About a year ago, The Young Scot (close, personal friend of Mediawhore) made a video entitled Left 4 Bed, in which Bill of L4D made Louis of L4D, quite frankly, his bitch. The video did pretty well and The Young Scot quickly became internet famoose. Now the master of suspense is back with Left 4 Bed 2, and it’s bigger and better than ever before. Be afraid of Uncle Phil. Be very afraid.

I’ll admit, I didn’t start the day off well.  I fell out of bed in the middle of the night, then proceeded to stub my toe on the bed.  Then I put on an album from this band and soundly fell back asleep.  Here’s “Upon This Tidal Wave of Young Blood” by Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, a band that can always put me in a good mood.

Take this song as a reminder.  A reminder to get out and do something for yourself, instead of go through the motions day after day.  Here’s “Same Old Drag” by The Apples in Stereo.

The Gaming Godfather Dissidia, a Misdirected Idea

Posted by The Gaming Godfather On October - 27 - 2009   ZERO COMMENTS | 9 views

I’m going on record here stating that I am ready for the scopes of Final Fantasy fan boys and girls Hate Guns to be aimed at my head.  After sighting the opening cinematic, my hopes for this fighting game that harnesses characters usually taking turns of taking and inflicting pain.  Wonderful visuals, colorful characters, intense combat, and an amazing storyline.  But, I got into the actual game.  I dare not bash this game, because I find very few things wrong with Dissidia: Final Fantasy.  In my honest and humbled opinion, Dissidia: FF, should not have been created as a video game but rather an animated full length film.

A few changes and I could see this as a movie poster...

With Halloween quickly approaching, we all know what’s coming next: a full 2 months of Christmas season mobs, shopping, and music.  After the thirtieth radio playthrough of Christmas Shoes (a song so bad, it inspired this article), you’ll wish you were dead.  But take it from The Mountain Goats, you are going to make it through “This Year” if it kills you.

I remember when I was given the press release concerning the release date for Magic the Gathering: Duels of the Planeswalkers expansion.  I lept in the air and clicked my heels together and began to hum a happy little tune to myself.  I began to look through all my old MTG cards and began to fantasize at what cards may appear in the current decks.  I wondered if the Mind of the Void deck would be as good as, if not better than, my personal White/Blue deck.  Would the Cries of Rage deck burn brighter than my best friend’s Red/Green deck (complete with Apocalypse Hydra)?  How much did they alter Tezzeret’s deck and would it be any good?  All these questions and more raced through my mind.  One little problem, a problem ranging in the size of Jupiter.  That problem being a question that rested in many minds.  Is this DLC going to be an entire waste or something to leave fans cheering for more?

If you take a good look, you may just find a hint on how to handle one of the new puzzles...

Jamie Gibson Demo Daze – Dragon Ball: Raging Blast

Don't stare di

I was a big fan of Dragonball Z when I was a kid. Like any childhood cartoon, it seems a little silly looking back but as long as I had my daily dose of Toonami and people with gravity defying haircuts throwing each other through canyons then I was happy. So whenever I get the chance to play a new game based on the Dragonball franchise, I’ll usually give it a go. After all, it’s a perfect candidate for a fighting game, with the number of locations as well as the huge number of filler characters than no one care about. So when I saw a demo for the upcoming Dragonball: Raging Blast on Xbox Live, I gave it a go. After all, even though I hadn’t even heard of the game up until this point, it was only 281MB and it was Dragonball, so it couldn’t be too bad.

One download later, I booted up the demo and I was presented with the title screen accompanied by a delightfully cheesy and DBZ-esque theme song. The demo lets you pick from Goku, Piccolo and Raditz to fight 1 on 1 on a random valley of rocks, boulders and all of the typical scenery you’ve come to love in an episode of Dragonball  Z. The demo also lets you choose from two costumes for each character as well as letting you pick between regular Goku and Super Saiyan Goku. The costumes changes were laughable, with virtually no difference between the two. The worst was Goku, who’s second costume is just the same as the first but with a badge on his clothing. I’d waited enough by now though and it was time to fight.

Ryan Wilson Netflix Coming to PS3: Some Hoop Jumping Required

Posted by Ryan Wilson On October - 26 - 2009   ZERO COMMENTS | 5 views

netflixNetflix and SCEA have reached an agreement to get the popular movie rental company’s “Watch Instantly” service onto the Playstation 3.  Unlike the Xbox 360 version, which requires a Gold account to access the service, the Playstation 3 version will be completely free to the user.  There will be, however, a few steps in order to watch Netflix on your PS3:

  1. You must request a special disc (free) from Netflix to use the service.
  2. The disc needs to be in the system whenever you decide to use Netflix.

Stupid rules? Yes, but necessary to work around the Microsoft agreement, allowing the 360 to be the sole console allowed the convenience of Netflix on the Dashboard.

Ryan Wilson Morning Cup o’ Alternative

Here’s a song that has been somewhat lost over time, even though it won a Grammy Award.  A great song stuck in a shitty movie, Batman and Robin.  “The End is the Beginning is the End” later resurfaced in yet another superhero movie in the trailer for Watchmen, with altered lyrics, a slower pace, and a new name “The Beginning is the End is the Beginning”.

Nik Mortimer Youth in Revolt – Trailer

Posted by Nik Mortimer On October - 26 - 2009   1 COMMENT | 9 views

Could Youth in Revolt be the movie that finally Michael Cera play somebody other than himself?  Well it’s either this or Scott Pilgrim but Youth in Revolt certainly looks like it’s gong to allow Cera to play somebody a little bit different to the nice guy he normally plays.  Based on the classic novel by C. D. Payne, Youth in Revolt tells the story of Nick Twisp (Cera) a nice guy who has a taste for the finer things in life unlike his trailer trash family.  When Nick meets the free spirited Sheeni (Portia Doubleday) who really isn’t interested in his nice guy demeanour forcing Nick to create a rebellious alter ego, Francois who gets Nick into a lot of trouble with both his friends and the police.

The film certainly looks original and Michael Cera does seem to be playing someone very different when he’s playing Francois, the film gets released in 2010 what do you guys think to the trailer, is it enough to make you go and see it?

Decapitation!  This is the word roared by Eddie Riggs when he takes out his first and last boss within Brutal Legend.  Why talk about the beheading and de-tonguing of a giant worm and the defeat of a horned S&M four-necked guitar playing demon when there is so much caught in the crossfire?  Unleash an army of head bangers, fight against the girl you love, pimp out your Druid Plow, and crank up the volume as your rock out to some of the most metal music ever to be heard!  Give me a “Hell Yea!” if you want a game that will blow your mind, kick start your heart, and melt your face.

Just another fun time to be found in Brutal Legend

Ending the work week with a double shot of some epic indie tunes.  The first song may sound very familar to everyone, as it was redone recently for the Where the Wild Things Are theatrical trailer.  Here’s The Arcade Fire with “Wake Up” in its raw original form.

Today’s second song is “Myriad Harbour” by The New Pornographers, a great song with a very trippy music video.  Guaranteed to keep you going through the work day thinking “What the hell did I just watch?”.
