Jamie Gibson Compulsory E3 Predictions Post

Posted by Jamie Gibson On May - 31 - 2009   1 COMMENT | 9 views

e3

Well, tomorrow marks the beginning of E3, a week where everyone gets caught in hype, blogs crush to death with news and we generally get excited. Last year’s E3 was a disappointment, but this year it’s back at the LA Convention Center and ready to roll and of course, the booth babes are back. As long as we don’t get Cammie Dunaway snowboarding with Shaun White again or a whole group of Nintendo cronies embarrassing themselves on stage with Wii Music, then it should be a fun time for gaming. So in preparation for this coming week’s events, here are me and Nikmonroe’s predictions for E3 2009.

This won’t mean a lot to most of our American readers, to our British readers who are fans of comedy, this is pretty good news. Comedian Steve Coogan stopped by at Radio 1 this weekend an in an interview with Edith Bowman, possibly to plug Night At The Museum 2 (which he plays a role in), the question was brought up of whether if he would do an Alan Partridge film. Coogan’s response was “Yeah, we are planning on making a movie. We’re talking at the moment. What it is we’re not quite sure. But yes, there are plans afoot to make a film.As soon as I read that I shit bricks and came. I’m Alan Partridge is one of my favourite British comedies of all time, a series which follows a cynical, luckless presenter who is trying to reclaim his place in entertainment as he is surrounded by who he feels are idiots. If you’ve never seen it, the two series of the comedy are pretty cheap and you should definitely pick them up if you like dark and cynical humour. Now on the one hand it could be a disaster, since it’s generally hard to transfer a TV show to  a movie but just the fact that we know that Coogan is at least thinking about making more stuff involving Alan Partridge is something to be excited about. You gave us a second series, so giving us more would be great Mr.Coogan.

Jamie Gibson A Brit Late: Mirror’s Edge

(This is a review based on the writer’s opinion. You don’t have to agree with it, but at least appreciate their view)

Mirror’s Edge should really have been called Marmite’s Edge. Just like Assassin’s Creed the year before it, when Mirror’s Edge was first announced the hype for it was unbelievable. It had everything going for it. It looked fresh and original. Then the game actually came out and some were disappointed and some were happy with the game. Opinions on the game split down the middle, just like they had for Assassin’s Creed when that was released a year before. Overall though, the game tended to get more negative than positive press so I avoided buying it when it came out. However last month I was looking to get rid of the horrible Sonic Unleashed before it became worthless (as most recent Sonic games have). It just so happened that Mirror’s Edge had become pretty cheap since it’s November release so I picked it up along with Assassin’s Creed (which you will know if you watch my video blogs). I knew not to go in expecting much, but I was still surprised and disappointed. Read on to see what I thought about the opinion splitter that is Mirror’s Edge.

Nik Mortimer Review: Lost – Via Domus

Lost – Via Domus is the video game tie in to the massively popular television series Lost.  Taking place around key events in seasons 1,2 and 3.  In Via Domus you play as Elliott Maslow, a passenger on Oceanic Flight 815 who wakes up on the beach along with the other survivors albeit with no memory.  Each of the games chapters is focused around something the A-team has been doing in the main story of the television show and you see it from another perspective in a way similar to how the ill fated Nikki and Paulo were introduced to the show in season 3.  Fans of the show won’t be surprised to find out that flashbacks feature heavily in order to flesh out Elliotts back story as you try and cure his amnesia and discover some of his mysterious past.

Since we are clearly very intelligent individuals here, when we were made aware of the Swine Flu epidemic that was a deadly threat to whole of mankind,  we were very worried about how the world would deal with it and more importantly how scaremongering the media could be. So when this NHS Swine Flu leaflet was sent through our letterbox, as it has through every letterbox in Britain, I knew I had to review this as it could hold vital information for us intelligent people who will be the only ones left once Swine Flu leads to the inevitable zombie apocalypse. So hit the jump for an analysis of each page and whether this is as useful as what we’ve learnt from great informing films like Shaun Of The Dead.

Xopher Reed Morning Cup o’ Metal

Posted by Xopher Reed On May - 13 - 2009   1 COMMENT | 10 views

I was introduced to All That Remains when I played my first round of Guitar Hero 2 on the Xbox 360. I was one of those people who doubted the fun-factor in a game that required you use a tiny guitar, but I was quickly hooked and became a fan of both the game and of the band.

I know that a few of my more recent favorite bands came from all of the rhythm games forcing me to try new music, it’s just nice that a good 40% of the bands I’ve never heard from aren’t shit, some can even be pretty badass.

This is the opening track on The Fall of Ideals and is the band’s 3rd outing into the American Metalcore genre. A little known fact about the album is that it was produced by the guitarist from Killswitch Engage (a MediaWhoreNetwork favorite band, more on them later). Though the most known song on the album to us gamers would be “Six”, “This Calling” is an awesome track that you might have been lucky enough to hear on your local radio stations.

Xopher Reed Boycott AMC and Regal IMAX Theatres

Posted by Xopher Reed On May - 12 - 2009   ZERO COMMENTS | 15 views

Comedian/Actor Aziz Ansari wants you to know that if you go to see IMAX at any AMC or Regal theatres…you might be getting ripped off and not even know it.

You see, when you go to an IMAX theatre showing of a movie, the auditorium is supposed to be super-massive and the screen should measure about 23 x 30 meters (approx 80 x 100 ft). Apparently the companies think that they can charge the additional $5 for a ticket to a ‘IMAX’ screening and not have anyone notice.
