Now, I’m not that old of a gamer, I can barely remember the end of the 16-bit era, but even i can appreciate something as awesome as this. From the Capcom Admin of Capcom-Unity, comes news that the “retail packaging” for Megaman 9 complete with a “NES Cartridge” and Game Assests CD. The best news is that it won’t just be restricted to certain people in the gaming media, but will be available for a limited time to the public.

I don’t know about you but if Megaman 9 was actually contained on the disc, that would be worth more than one fap.

What’s even better, is that the game’s release date has been confirmed as 22nd September on the Wii, 25th September on the PSN, and 1st October for XBLA. That’s next week!

Can we contain getting Megaman 9 and Duke Nukem 3D in the same week?

Xopher Reed A Weird Kid’s Top 10 — NES Platformers

Posted by Xopher Reed On September - 17 - 2008   1 COMMENT | 16 views

The FIRST game that I ever played on my old NES was Super Mario Brothers. It was not a perfect game really, but for my little 8 year old mind, it was heaven. The action was intense, the speed was just right, and when you got the fire-flower, you thought you could take on the world.

Since those days, we have had many a challenger in the gaming world that has tried to take the crown of best platformer ever. There were games that came before and after Super Mario Bros. that I have played and owned; many of them were on the NES. It is that one aspect that made me narrow down the list from all systems to just one. With that, I think you guys will be pleasantly surprised to share with me today: A Weird Kid’s Top 10 — NES Platformers. See you at the end.

[UPDATE: The tabloid rags were wrong. A Valve representative has confirmed that there has been no talks of merger with Google]

Over the last 10 years Google has gone from a place to easily search for porn to a mighty juggernaut of the Internet who has been putting maps, the Earth, instant messaging, and even a browser down our pants. You’d think Google’s next affair would be putting out video games. Well, turns out they want to get into someone’s video game pants but it’s not ours.

Yesterday, when we learned that Google wants to have hot sex with Game Developers, rumours arose of Google taking an interest in getting hold of Valve. Valve, the same company who taught us that any problem can be solved with a crowbar and that we should let the Combine do whatever they want to us. Tits and more on Page 3/More Whore.

Xopher Reed MediaWhoreNetwork Reviews Burn After Reading

Posted by Xopher Reed On September - 16 - 2008   1 COMMENT | 2 views

This weekend, I was lucky enough to convince my significant other to go with me to watch the newest movie from the Coen brothers, Burn After Reading. I have to say that I thought that this was possibly one of the pair’s best movies since Fargo or O Brother, Where Art Thou?, unfortunately nothing can ever compare to The Big Lebowski, ever!

Let me preface my review with this…I am a huge fan of anything that these two guys put out. I even managed to enjoy The Ladykillers. I guess what that means is that this review will be a bit skewed toward genius rather than flop as some publications and sites claim that it is.

Ryan Wilson MWN Reviews Disgaea 3

Ryan Wilson When a Remix Goes Wrong: The Perfect Crime #2

The Perfect Crime #2
Artist: The Decemberists
Album: The Crane Wife

Original song

The remix

Where it went wrong
The song in no way represents the original song. In fact, the Junior Boys probably could have removed the song from the remix completely, replaced the parts with a pornstar queefing up an enchilada, and still have the same effect.

This remix is the musical equivalent of shitting on a Monet painting.

Evan Burkey Good Old Games: Holy Crap, This Is Awesome

GOG

If you lurk the internets as much as I do, you’ve probably heard about Good Old Games. If you haven’t, GOG is Polish developer CD Projekt’s foray into the wonderful world of digital distribution. This wonderful little website sells old PC games, filling the niche of providing hard to find relics of the past. Since they have opened up their doors for a closed beta that I was able to get myself into, I thought I would see if CD Projekt can live up to the expectations that I and the rest of the internet have put on them. Thankfully, I found they went above and beyond.

Mason Castle Crashers: A Welcome Return To Beat-Em-Up Roots

Posted by Mason On September - 9 - 2008   ZERO COMMENTS | 2 views

There are precious few ‘Beat-Em-Up’ games on the Xbox 360 console, that don’t cost an arm and a leg to own, and I think I can safely speak for the majority when I say that we truly are at a loss for this. Since the days of Final Fight, Double Dragon and Streets of Rage nobody has managed to capture that classic feeling of being a lone warrior against hordes of enemies with only your two fists and your two feet as your weapons. Or even better the original Ninja Gaiden, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Golden Axe series, which focused more on the weapon combat and gave you many more bad guys to fight at once.

Castle Crashers is a refreshing return to our beat-em-up roots. Developed by The Behemoth and released on August 27th, 2008 at a price of 12,000 Microsoft Points (about 15 dollars) it seems to capture the feeling and excitement of the original beat em ups in a new original way.

Hello there fellow sports fans. Welcome to the first edition of my new weekly series, Armchair Quarterback, in which I, as the only true sports fans among the regular editors, sit in my lazy-boy, drink a beer and critique and otherwise make fun of all the things I saw this past weekend in pro football.

So sit back, relax, and prepare to laugh at all the funny, horrifying, satisfying or depressing things of the past weekend.

Like it or not, zombies are here to stay. Whether it be the human fascination with our own mortality or the fear that humanity is fleeting and temporary, zombies have infiltrated the world’s subconscious. Regardless of the medium, the zombie horde has managed to shamble (or in some cases run full bore) into our morbid hearts.

Brad Holman Movie Time: Hitman and Michael Clayton Reviews

Posted by Brad Holman On September - 9 - 2008   2 COMMENTS | 7 views

So guess what I did this past weekend?? Go to a strip club? Get a bunch of friends and take a bottle of whiskey and a pound of marijuana to the lake and go skinny dipping? Cover myself in peanut butter and let a dog lick it off of me? Actually that last one sound like fun, but no, I did none of those things.

Instead I sat alone in my house – my roommates were all gone for the weekend – and drank too much whiskey and watched movies. Two of those movies I’m here today to tell you what I thought about them. The first is a video game adaptation and the second is….well I’m not sure what the second one is.

Xopher Reed MWN’s Impressions: Sons of Anarchy on FX

For those of you that don’t stay current on what’s showing on the TeeVee, there’s no need to worry. This website is full of chubby twenty-somethings that have nothing better to do in the evenings than to watch these shows and report to you what we think you should be watching along with us, or what to avoid. In other words, we watch TV so you dont have to!

This weekend, I finally had stuff to watch on my DVR that wasn’t reruns of Metalocalypse or Tim and Eric Awesome Show Great Job. In true FX fashion, the network has started is season early with The Shield (one of my favorite TV shows of all time) and the subject of today’s impressions: Sons of Anarchy.

Brad Holman PAX Game Summary

Why hello there! Long time no see. How have you been doing MWN? I know I have been gone awhile, but now I’m back and I have a lot of nice goodies for you all.

Alright, yeah, that’s not working. I know it’s been awhile since you’ve seen my smiling face either here, or in the NSFW section. I’m not making excuses because if there’s one thing I learned about blogging this weekend is that you guys don’t care for excuses. So all I can tell you is that I have just recently returned from an awesome trip to Seattle where I attended the Penny Arcade Expo or PAX. If you don’t know what PAX is, Google the bitch, because I’m not telling. So, in the first of a series of articles dedicated to my PAX trip, I’m going to give you some impressions of the games I got to play while I was there.

Jamie Gibson Local Multiplayer is Life, Not Just for Offline

Posted by Jamie Gibson On September - 5 - 2008   ZERO COMMENTS | 2 views

Multiplayer, it’s been a staple of gaming ever since Pong was released way back in 1972. It’s simple, a number of players, usually up to 4, can play together in a game or against each other.  Thinking of many of the recent great games and they’ll likely have multiplayer. Originally to use multiplayer you needed real life friends to play with, which could lead to arguments or feelings of accomplishment, depending on if you were a team or enemies.

In 1993 Doom was released for PC, it was noted as being a controversial game for it’s gore and violence, it was also the first game to allow multiplayer to be played over a network of computers. Follwing its footsteps later by Quake 2 in 1997, people from all over the world could finally play against each other providing they had a decent enough connection for the time and a decent PC. This was the beginning of online multiplayer.
